Git 2.55 Without Rust: A New Approach from Libre-WD40
Git 2.55 Without Rust: A New Approach from Libre-WD40
The Git team released version 2.55, but the Libre-WD40 project offers an alternative without Rust.
Two days ago, the Git team released Git 2.55. One of the key features of this release was the gradual but enforced introduction of the Rust language and its toolchain for building Git.
Today, the "Libre-WD40" project (since WD-40 removes rust) released Git 2.55.0 in a "WD-40 flavor".
With two simple changes:
- Rust removed.
- Default branch changed to
master.
This is how open source should work.
A developer of the project does something that some people dislike, so another developer forks the project and resolves the issue.
Why it matters
